2014 Ford Edge

Pros: Comfortable, spacious cabin; strong V6 powertrain; good balance between fuel economy and power with optional EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine

Cons: MyFord Touch touchscreen controls are hard to use; prices are a bit steep; when equipped with upsized wheels, ride isn’t as smooth as some class competitors

CG Says: Edge offers a roomy interior, great cargo flexibility, and pleasant road manners. Though it’s only offered on front-drive models, we recommend the extra-cost turbocharged 4-cylinder “EcoBoost” engine for its smooth power and impressive fuel economy. Despite several software upgrades, we still aren’t impressed with the MyFord Touch control interface. Fundamentally it’s complicated and not the most user-friendly setup, so we recommend making sure you thoroughly familiarize yourself with the system before making the plunge. In any case, Edge merits consideration if you’re in the market for a 5-passenger crossover SUV. We think a carefully optioned SEL will provide the best value.
