2015 Acura TLX

Pros: Agile handling, especially with all-wheel drive model; upscale cabin appointments; decent acceleration from base 4-cylinder engine; good passenger room both front and rear

Cons: Performance of V6’s 9-speed transmission; so-so trunk space; premium fuel required for both engines; not all testers like V6 models’ push-button gear selector

CG Says: Acura introduces a new midsize sedan for 2015 that replaces the outgoing TSX and TL sedans. The TLX slots in between the TSX and TL in size, and uses updated versions of the 4-cylinder that was standard in the TSX and the V6 that was standard in the TL. Highlights of the TLX’s available features include forward collision warning, lane-keep assist, remote engine start, adaptive cruise control, and Acura’s Precision All-Wheel Steer system (P-AWS), which is standard on front-drive TLXs. Acura hopes that the new TLX will hit a “sweet spot” in its product lineup. The outgoing TL ended up being a bit too close to the flagship Acura RLX sedan in size and price, and the outgoing TSX might have been a touch too small for many shoppers in the luxury sedan segment. The new TLX’s “just right” sizing, athletic driving character, convincingly luxurious ambiance, and impressive array of available tech and safety features make it a compelling choice.
