2014 Audi SQ5

Pros: Good selection of powertrain options, including hybrid and diesel-engine models; crisp, athletic-for-the-class handling; convincingly upscale interior trimmings

Cons: Ride can get a bit stiff over sharp bumps; complicated control layout; prices rise quickly with options and higher-end models

CG Says: Though rival luxury crossovers have their attractions, the 2014 Q5 is a class standout for refinement and cargo/passenger versatility. Classy cabin appointments, sporty road manners, and Audi’s rising brand status are among other strong assets. The addition of a refined diesel-engine version and sporty SQ5 model for 2014 is a plus as well. Prices soar as you add options or move up the model hierarchy, leaving the entry-level 2.0T as the best dollar value and a capable all-rounder that should satisfy most buyers. Keep an eye on the options sheet, though, as expensive packages and standalone items quickly send the MSRP skyward. Note also that the smaller Q3 offers similar levels of sportiness and refinement at a lower price.
