2021 Buick Envision

Pros: Easy-to-use controls; generous front-seat room; peppy acceleration

Cons: Steering lacks road feel; cargo area not as large as some competitors; interior materials are a step down from most luxury-brand rivals

CG Says: Buick’s Envision 5-passenger compact crossover is redesigned for 2021, inaugurating its second generation with dramatic new styling and new technology features on a platform that is about two inches lower and wider than the first-generation Envision. The model lineup ascends through base Preferred, midline Essence, and topline Avenir trim levels. Standard features on the Avenir include heated/ventilated front seats with driver-side massage, heated rear seats, and a surround-view camera display. An Avenir-exclusive option package adds features such as Continuous Damping Control adaptive suspension, Enhanced Automatic Parking Assist, adaptive cruise control, and rearview-camera mirror. The sole powertrain for all Envisions is a 227-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine paired with a 9-speed automatic (the previous generation Envision offered a choice of 197-hp 2.5-liter 4-cylinder or a 252-hp turbo four). All models are available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Standard safety features include automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, blind-spot alert, following-distance indicator, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high-beam headlights. The 2021 Buick Envision is a respectably nimble crossover with peppy performance and a comfortable interior. As a near-luxury SUV, Envision offers better trim and more features than mainstream competitors, but at prices that undercut most traditional luxury-brand rivals. Its redesign adds dynamic new looks, welcome new technology features, and a classy topline trim level to the bargain.
