2019 Chevrolet Traverse

Pros: Generous passenger and cargo room; expansive list of available safety features; easy access to third-row seat

Cons: Large size can make close-quarters maneuverability difficult; some desirable safety features are restricted to pricey trim levels

CG Says: The 2019 Chevrolet Traverse has few changes following its redesign last year. There is a new all-wheel-drive RS model with a 3.6-liter V6 engine. Previously, the RS was only offered with front-wheel drive and a 4-cylinder engine. Also, an automatic heated steering wheel is now standard on Premier and High Country models. Traverse has three rows of seats and can carry up to eight passengers. Available features include rearview camera mirror, LED headlights with automatic high beams, and hands-free power liftgate. Available safety features include autonomous emergency braking, 360-degree surround-vision camera, lane-keep assist with lane-departure warning, front pedestrian braking, GM’s Teen Driver monitoring system, and a rear-seat reminder feature. A 257-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine powers the front-wheel-drive version of the sporty RS model. All other models have a 310-horsepower 3.6-liter V6. Both engines are paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission. In addition to exclusive availability of the turbo-four engine, the RS has blacked out trim, black 20-inch wheels, and other unique features. Topping out the Traverse lineup is the High Country with standard all-wheel drive, leather and suede upholstery, power-folding 3rd-row seats, and other upscale features. The Traverse is among the biggest of the midsize crossover SUVs—it offers interior room that rivals some large SUVs. For buyers looking for a roomy SUV with a comprehensive list of safety and convenience features, the Chevrolet Traverse is a must-see.
