2020 Chevrolet Blazer

Pros: Fine ride and handling balance; robust acceleration in V6 models; feature-rich, user-friendly infotainment system

Cons: Prices are steep on high-end models; cargo volume is slightly below average for the class

CG Says: The 2020 Chevrolet Blazer gains a new turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine option and the engine stop-start function can now be turned off. The trailer-tow package now includes trailer-hitch guidance. Chevrolet revived its Blazer nameplate for 2019 on an all-new 5-passenger midsize SUV. Unlike the off-road-focused Blazers of yore, the current one is a sleekly styled crossover that is aimed at on-road performance. The Blazer slots between the compact Equinox and “large midsize” 3-row Traverse in Chevrolet’s SUV lineup. It offers a choice of a 193-horsepower 2.5-liter 4-cylinder, 230-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder, or a 308-hp 3.6-liter V6; all powerplants are paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission. The turbo-four and V6-powered Blazers are available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, while 2.5-liter 4-cylinder models are front-wheel drive only. Available safety features include forward collision warning with automatic braking and pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, blind-spot alert, rear cross-traffic alert, and a rearview camera mirror. Other available features include power tilt/telescopic steering wheel, heated/ventilated front seats, hands-free liftgate, Wi-Fi hotspot, multi-view camera system, and wireless cell-phone charging. In terms of exterior styling, handling, and performance from its V6 engine, Chevrolet’s revived Blazer targets the sportier size of the mainstream midsize SUV market. The cabin is comfortable and spacious in both the first and second rows, and Chevrolet’s excellent “Infotainment 3” touchscreen interface boasts plenty of useful features. Prices on optioned-up topline models crest $50,000, however.
