2014 Honda Insight

Pros: One of the most affordable hybrids vehicles on the market; decent passenger and cargo space for a compact car

Cons: Lackluster acceleration; high noise levels; choppy ride; rear-window design compromises outward visibility

2014 Insight

CG Says: The 2014 Insight generally matches the top-selling Toyota Prius hatchback for practicality and driving ease, and beats it on price. But Honda’s less-versatile hybrid drive can’t deliver the same real-world fuel economy or performance, because it doesn’t use the full potential of its electric side. Factor in subpar ride quality and dynamic refinement, and it’s no wonder that Insight has been such a tough sell while the Prius continues to fly out of showrooms. In all, the Insight offers sound value and seriously good fuel economy, but it’s not the most accomplished hybrid you can buy. Note that the Insight can be an excellent used-car value, so look around for a clean nearly new example before committing to purchasing brand new.
