2014 Hyundai Accent GLS

Pros: Pleasant cabin; reasonably quiet and composed in highway driving; feels bigger than it is; good selection of optional equipment

Cons: Mediocre fuel economy for the class; not as value-priced as other Hyundai vehicles; middling passing power on the highway

CG Says: The 2014 Hyundai Accent gets some added standard features, and SE models get available LED-accented projector headlights, an auto-up driver’s window, and a tilt/telescopic steering wheel. It’s not the bargain-basement transport it used to be, but Accent does offer a fine combination of room, refinement, features, and performance for the money. There is one other caveat, and it’s a big one. This car does not deliver great fuel economy. Over the course of short- and long-term test drives, our test Accents had a very difficult time cracking 30 mpg while some larger compacts can break 40 without much difficulty. There’s too much good stuff about this car to make it unworthy of a high place on your shopping list, but the fuel-economy issue is something that should be kept in mind.
