2014 Jeep Compass Limited

Pros: Fantastic off-road capabilities when properly equipped; decent interior space for the size; numerous options for personalization

Cons: Interior materials and overall refinement don’t match most class competitors; mediocre acceleration; high noise levels

CG Says: The Jeep Compass gets a new optional 6-speed automatic transmission and slight tweaks to the exterior and interior styling. It also gains new front-side airbags and an optional rearview camera. Compass is reasonably comfortable and, in some situations, can be more useful than other SUVs in its class. It also offers serious off-road equipment that few other compact SUVs can match. However, it is noisy in the cabin, lacking in power, and a bit unrefined. The 6-speed automatic transmission does a lot of good in the powertrain department, though. If you desire a Jeep Grand Cherokee but don’t want to spend that kind of money, the Compass is a good alternative. But, if you don’t fall into that camp, there are better choices in this segment.
