2016 Jeep Compass

Pros: Fantastic off-road capabilities when properly equipped; decent interior space for the size; numerous options for personalization

Cons: Interior materials and overall refinement don’t match most class competitors; mediocre acceleration; high noise levels

CG Says: Jeep Compass gains standard Bluetooth and satellite radio for 2016. The topline Limited version has been dropped. Compass is reasonably comfortable and, in some situations, can be more useful than other SUVs in its class. It also offers serious off-road equipment that few other compact SUVs can match. However, it is noisy in the cabin, lacking in power, and a bit unrefined. The 6-speed automatic transmission does a lot of good in the powertrain department, though. If you desire a Jeep Grand Cherokee but don’t want to spend that kind of money, the Compass is a good alternative. But, if you don’t fall into that camp, there are better choices in this segment.
