2020 Land Rover Range Rover

Pros: Ferocious acceleration in supercharged V8 models; impeccably luxurious cabin; fantastic off-road capabilities, good on-road driving dynamics

Cons: Stratospheric prices, especially in Autobiography models; some complex controls; seating for five only—no 3rd-row is available

CG Says: The 2020 Land Rover Range Rover has two new powertrains. The base V6 has been replaced by a mild-hybrid, turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six cylinder that is available with 355 or 395 horsepower ratings. There is also a new plug-in hybrid that combines a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with an electric motor for a combined 398 horsepower. Range Rover is a premium large SUV with seating for five. Besides the standard wheelbase, Range Rover also offers long-wheelbase versions with 7.3 inches of additional rear legroom. Besides the previously mention powertrains, there is also a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 develops 518 hp in Supercharged and Autobiography models, while the topline SVAutobiography has a 557-hp version of the supercharged V8. A 254-hp 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel is also available. All engines mate to an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive is standard. Available features include massaging seats, heated/cooled seats, power rear seats, hands-free tailgate, adaptive cruise control, surround-view cameras, parking assist, and power door closing, and a Wade Sensing system that provides real-time wading depth information when driving through deep water. Available safety features include lane-keep assist and autonomous emergency braking. Few SUVs can come close to matching the Range Rover’s combination of good driving dynamics, luxurious accommodations, superb off-road ability, and country-club curb appeal. None of that comes cheap, however, as this is one of the most expensive SUVs around. Most buyers probably don’t need all the Range Rover has to offer, and as such, will likely find better value elsewhere.
