2017 Outback

2016 Subaru Outback

Pros: Spacious interior with wagon versatility; controlled, comfortable ride; standard all-wheel drive

Cons: Middling fuel economy with 6-cylinder engine; some ergonomic issues with climate controls and available navigation system

CG Says: After its redesign last year, the 2016 Subaru Outback gets revised power steering that Subaru says provides better feel. Subaru has also retuned the shock absorbers on Limited models. New safety features include available telematics emergency services, headlight on/off linked with the windshield wipers, and the optional EyeSight package now includes lane-departure mitigation. The new model retains Outback’s characteristic blend of midsize station wagon and SUV attributes while delivering a host of welcome new features and improvements. Car loyalists, crossover intenders, and even those searching for an at least mildly off-road-capable SUV will find a lot to like with the Outback.
