Toyota RAV4

2016 Toyota RAV4

Pros: Outstanding cargo room for the class; rear seats fold flat and level; good fuel economy; smooth, balanced ride

Cons: Base prices are higher than most rivals; so-so cabin materials

CG Says: For 2016, a hybrid model joins the Toyota RAV4 lineup. All RAV4s get freshened exterior styling and some gain LED headlights. A newly available safety package includes automated pre-collision braking, lane-departure alert, and adaptive cruise control. RAV4’s large-for-the-class dimensions give it great passenger and cargo room, and fuel economy is quite respectable as well. Starting prices seem a bit steep, but they’re somewhat justified by the high levels of equipment and Toyota’s strong brand reputation. Particularly if you’re torn between a compact SUV and a midsize one, RAV4 is well worth a look.
