Cons: Base prices are higher than most rivals; so-so cabin materials

CG Says: The 2018 Toyota RAV4 gains a new Adventure model with unique interior and exterior trim that slots between XLE and SE. RAV4 is a compact crossover SUV with large-for-the-class dimensions that give it great passenger and cargo room, plus fuel economy is quite respectable as well. Standard on all RAV4s is Toyota Safety Sense P (TSS-P) that includes: pre-collision system with pedestrian detection; automatic high beams; lane-departure warning with steering assist; and adaptive cruise control. Other available features include navigation, keyless access and starting, surround-view camera, blind-spot alert, dual-zone automatic climate controls, and heated steering wheel. Starting prices seem a bit steep, but they’re somewhat justified by the high levels of equipment and Toyota’s strong brand reputation. Particularly if you’re torn between a compact SUV and a midsize one, RAV4 is well worth a look.
