2014 Volvo S60

Pros: Unique available safety equipment; crisp handling; robust powertrain on T6 and especially T6 R-Design models

Cons: Significantly noisier than many class competitors; cramped rear-seat space; stiff ride with T6 R-Design’s sport suspension

CG Says: The 2014 Volvo S60 gets minor updates such as freshened front-fascia styling, a new instrument panel, LED-accented taillights, and available sport seats. S60 brings a level of style and fun-to-drive personality that’s been uncommon in recent Volvos. Overall, S60 offers a likeable blend of vivid performance, distinctive styling, and upscale interior trim–as well as the safety features expected of a Volvo. The base T5 and potent T6 are your best bets here. The availability of all-wheel drive for the T5 should be appreciated by entry-level buyers in Northern climes. While the sporty R-Design has more power and sharper handling, its stiffer ride and much higher price make it a less compelling choice. Note that Volvo is planning to introduce the V50, a midsize four-door wagon similar to the S60, as a 2015 model.
