2015 S80

2014 Volvo S80

Pros: Respectable acceleration from T6’s turbocharged 6-cylinder engine; fine build quality; generous passenger room front and rear; broad selection of available safety features; comfortable seats

Cons: Mediocre acceleration from base 3.2-liter 6-cylinder engine; lacks high-end brand appeal of similarly priced rivals; questionable value for the money, subpar resale value

CG Says: The 2014 Volvo S80 gets minor updates such as a digital instrument panel and freshened front-end styling. The 2014 S80 is a comfortable and surprisingly stylish sedan. Unfortunately, this Volvo can’t match the brand recognition, sporty moves, or luxury trappings of its strongest competitors. The 3.2 model doesn’t have the muscle of its rivals and isn’t offered with all-wheel drive. Overall, the turbocharged all-wheel-drive T6 versions do a better job meeting luxury-sedan expectations, but prices rise accordingly. Base prices are reasonable for the class, but expensive packaged and standalone items can push the sticker into territory occupied by cars that offer greater cachet, larger dealer networks, and stronger resale values.
