Pros: Availability of diesel model; impressively quiet for the class; good trunk space
Cons: Cramped back seat; uninspiring handling; so-so acceleration; lack of hatchback body style
CG Says: Cruze shines for its refined drivetrains, solid body structure, and inviting cabin. It’s also one of the quietest vehicles in its class. The new-for-2014 Cruze Diesel is an intriguing addition to the line. Though we noticed some odd transmission behavior at low speeds, the Cruze Diesel’s overall refinement and decent power make it a worthy competitor against the stalwart Volkswagen Jetta TDI. Even if you’re still wary of diesel, the rest of the Cruze lineup is excellent and well worth your consideration.
