CG Says: Audi Q5 drops its diesel and hybrid models for 2017. 3.0T Prestige models gain standard adaptive cruise control, Drive Select (which has setting to vary suspension and transmission behavior), and Dynamic Steering that varies the steering ratio. Q5 and its sporty SQ5 variant are premium compact crossover SUVs with standard all-wheel drive. 2.0T models are powered by a 220-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder. 3.0T versions have a 272-hp supercharged 3.0-liter V6. The high-performance SQ5 packs a 354-hp supercharged 3.0-liter V6. All engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Available features include rain-sensing wipers, panoramic sunroof, adaptive cruised control, blind-spot alert, and steering-linked xenon headlights. Though rivals have their attractions, the Q5 is a class standout for refinement and cargo/passenger versatility. Classy cabin appointments, sporty road manners, and Audi’s rising brand status are among other strong assets. The sporty SQ5 version is a plus as well. Prices soar as you add options or move up the model hierarchy, leaving the entry-level 2.0T as the best dollar value and a capable all-rounder that should satisfy most buyers. Keep an eye on the options sheet, though, as expensive packages and standalone items quickly send the MSRP skyward.
