Pros: Very aggressive pricing; strong 3.6-liter V6 engine supplies ample power; unique trim options
Cons: Overall refinement trails the best in the midsize-car class; cabin space is stingier than most rivals; large rear roof pillars cause significant blind spots
CG Says: Special-edition Blacktop and Rallye appearance packages see expanded availability on the 2014 Dodge Avenger. Avenger’s available V6 engine is quite powerful and remarkably efficient. It is so good, in fact, that we think buyers should go for it and avoid the standard 4-cylinder mill. The cabin boasts a modern design with quality materials, but it is not very spacious and rear visibility is poor. Pricing is very reasonable, especially for the V6 engine and useful features, such as Chrysler’s Uconnect infotainment system. Though it still trails the leaders in the midsize class, the Avenger no longer competes based solely on price.
