CG Says: After its ground-up redesign for 2015, Ford’s celebrated “pony car” gets minor updates and a new super-performance model for 2016. Ford’s new Sync 3 touchscreen infotainment system replaces the sometimes-finicky MyFord Touch unit, and GT models get supplemental turn-signal indicators integrated into their hood vents. Meanwhile, the Shelby name returns to the Mustang lineup with the new-for-2016 Shelby GT350, a racetrack-ready machine that packs a 526-horsepower naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V8. Mustang’s redesign last year brought some key improvements—such as an independent rear suspension and a peppy turbocharged 4-cylinder engine option—that brought it up to date with most other sporty/performance 2-doors. The 2016 Mustang offers an excellent lineup of powertrain choices and optional performance, technology, and convenience equipment, so it can be tailored to a broad range of tastes and budgets. And, in whatever form it takes, the Mustang makes a fine case for itself against a wide variety of competitive vehicles.
