Pros: Significantly more affordable than other midsize cars with all-wheel drive; generously sized, comfortable interior; large trunk
Cons: Interior materials don’t match the best in the midsize-car class; some testers think the control layout is not well organized
CG Says: For 2014, Subaru Legacy models with the continuously variable transmission (CVT) get adaptive transmission control for smoother performance and response, the company says. Also, the available navigation system adds Aha-based smartphone connectivity. Legacy may be the most mainstream Subaru ever. These midsize cars are pleasant to drive, have great interior room, and come with a lot of equipment at reasonable prices. Standard all-wheel drive is a bonus for snow-belt states. While any Legacy is a solid choice, we like the 3.6R models, which have good power, surprising fuel economy, and lots of features for the money.
