Pros: Broad range of models and optional equipment; respectable acceleration in V6 models; sturdy build quality; nicely assembled, rugged interior with large, easy-to-use controls; excellent ground clearance for off-roading
Cons: Cramped, uncomfortable back seat in “Access Cab” extended-cab models; tall step-in height on 4WD models; bouncy ride with off-road suspension
CG Says: After its redesign last year, the 2017 Toyota Tacoma is little changed except for the return of the off-road-ready TRD Pro. The TRD Pro has standard four-wheel drive, limited-slip differential, off-road tires and suspension, blind-spot monitor, and leather upholstery. The Toyota Tacoma’s redesign was more a very heavy refresh than a clean-sheet-of-paper re-envisioning, but it still brought a number of worthwhile improvements and technology features that keep this truck competitive with the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon (both of which offer the choice of a diesel engine).
