2016 Chevrolet Silverado LTZ

Pros: Expansive passenger and cargo room; well-designed technology features; broad range of models, body configurations, and powertrains to choose from

Cons: Prices rise quickly as options are added; ride comfort doesn’t quite match Ram 1500—it’s a bit jiggly over rough pavement

CG Says: Silverado’s updates for 2016 include new front-end styling, an available remote locking tailgate, upgraded infotainment systems with Apple CarPlay capability, and wireless device charging on models with front bucket seats. WT, LS, and LT models get HID projector headlights, while LTZ and High Country models get LED headlights and taillights. Power-articulating assist steps are newly available on High Country models. Availability of the 8-speed automatic transmission, which was previously offered only with the 6.2-liter V8, is expanded to the 5.3-liter V8 models in LTZ or High Country trim. The Silverado benefits from refined, efficient-for-the-class powertrains; lots of in-cab storage areas; and comfortable, quiet crew-cab interiors. It rides well and we like that it doesn’t feel as lumbering as some of its competitors do on the road. Overall, it’s a really nice truck that does most everything pretty well. While Chrysler’s Ram 1500 still gets the nod as our favorite big pickup, this Chevy is still a Best Buy as well.
