Pros: High level of features per dollar; abundant V8 power; supremely comfortable back seat
Cons: Lacks brand prestige of class competitors; only two trim levels and no options
CG Says: The 2020 Genesis G90 has revised styling and new safety features. Genesis says that the door and roof panels are the only exterior pieces that carry over from the previous car. Newly available safety and technology features include Highway Driving Assist, Lane Following Assist, Safe Exit Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Assist, and Forward Collision Avoidance that can now detect bicycles. Apple CarPlay/Android Auto functionality is now standard. Just as Acura is the luxury division of Honda and Lexus the upscale brand of Toyota, so Genesis is an upmarket Hyundai product. Genesis G90 was a new design that replaced the Hyundai Equus in 2017 and is the flagship of the Genesis brand. The G90 is a premium large car with two powertrain choices: a twin-turbocharged 3.3-liter V6 or a 5.0-liter V8. Both mate to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel or all-wheel drive are available with either engine. Standard safety features include automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot alert, lane-keep assist, driver-attention alert, and 360-degree multi-view monitor. The G90 is well equipped with standard heated/ventilated front seats, tri-zone automatic climate controls, head-up instrument display, rear sunshades, hands-free trunk opener, power door closure, steering-linked LED headlights on all models. The topline 5.0 model adds power-adjustable, heated/ventilated rear seats and rear-seat entertainment system with dual screens. G90 offers the size and luxury of Lexus LS and high-end German rivals at a lower price.
