Pros: Very competitive prices; impressive design; satisfying acceleration with V6 engine; wide array of available trim and color combinations
Cons: Limited infotainment features; some safety tech features offered only on top models; no hybrid version
CG Says: Genesis introduces an all-new luxury compact SUV for 2022 that aims to blend robust performance, unique features, and upscale style at attractive prices. The GV70 is powered by a 300-horsepower 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine or a 375-horsepower 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6. Both team with an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive.
Four-cylinder GV70s are offered in Standard, Select, Advanced, and Sport Prestige versions, while V6 GV70s are available in Sport, Sport Advanced, and Sport Prestige trim. All have two-row seating for a maximum capacity of five passengers.
Standard on all GV70s is a 14.5-inch infotainment touchscreen and an 8.0-inch gauge display. Also available are a head-up display and a 12.3-inch all-digital gauge display that uses infrared cameras to track eye movement and project information with a 3-D effect. A unique dashboard-mounted fingerprint reader allows drivers to activate the vehicle without a key.
Standard infotainment features include Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity. A substantial set of safety tech features are offered, including automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear and side cross-traffic alert, camera-based blind-spot monitors, and emergency evasive steering.
The GV70 is going up against some well-entrenched competitors with gold-standard brand names. But Genesis is wisely offering a wide range of choices with this sharp new SUV, to attract buyers of different tastes and budgets. All models are priced to undercut their rivals significantly, while delivering much of the same luxury feel and satisfying driving experience. It should be more than enough to make the GV70 worth considering for luxury compact SUV shoppers.
