Pros: Good interior space within “right-sized” exterior dimensions; good selection of available technology and safety features; availability of upscale Denali model
Cons: Some so-so interior materials; third-row seats are cramped
CG Says: For 2022, the GMC Acadia loses its base 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine and SL trim level, but SLE models now come standard with the Pro Safety Plus Package suite of safety equipment that was previously reserved for the SLT, off-road-oriented AT4, and luxury Denali models. Acadia is a midsize crossover SUV that’s on the smaller side of those that offer three-row seating—it has a standard third-row seat with 6- or 7-passenger capacity (depending on whether you choose captain’s chairs or a bench seat for the second row). A 228-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder with fuel-saving automatic stop/start technology is now the base engine. Also available is a 310-hp 3.6-liter V-6 with cylinder deactivation. Both engines are paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive are available; the AT4 model includes a more sophisticated all-wheel-drive system than the other AWD Acadias. Available safety features include a surround-view camera, a Rear Seat Reminder that sounds an alert to check the backseat for passengers before leaving the vehicle, and a forward collision mitigation system with low-speed automatic braking and pedestrian detection. Other available features include OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity, heated/ventilated front seats, and power tilt/telescopic steering wheel. Compared to three-row class rivals such as the Honda Pilot and Kia Telluride, the Acadia gives up third-row passenger room and cargo space, but benefits from its tidier, easier-to-park dimensions. Along with the similarly sized Kia Sorento, the Acadia may be just right for you if you need third-row versatility but want it in a smaller, more “parkable” package than other midsize three-row SUVs.
