2014 Hyundai Elantra

Pros: Generous level of features for the money; roomy interior; pleasant road manners; added cargo versatility of GT hatchback model; availability of sporty Coupe body style

Cons: Lack of stand-alone options means some desirable features are available only in expensive options packages, some lackluster interior materials; rear-seat accessibility in Coupes

CG Says: The 2014 Hyundai Elantra lineup sees a host of exterior styling updates, new interior trim pieces, and a new 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine. Like the larger Sonata, Hyundai’s Elantra sedan packs the one-two punch of attractive styling and good fuel economy. This compact car does most everything well, though it doesn’t really stand out in any one area. That still makes for a compelling package in this highly competitive class. Pricing is attractive, but watch the options on range-topping Limited models. The Elantra Coupe adds a dash of sporty styling and 2-door flair to Hyundai’s compact-car lineup, without significantly compromising the virtues of its sedan sibling. Product offerings in the compact front-drive coupe market are somewhat sparse, but Elantra stacks up well against the Honda Civic Coupe, the Kia Forte Koup, and the Scion tC. The Elantra GT hatchback body style maintains Hyundai’s generous features-per-dollar value equation while adding welcome cargo versatility. Though the limited options list makes ordering simple, we wish some of the Tech Package and Style Package features were available individually.
