Pros: Generous level of features for the money; refined ride; nimble handling in GT N Line; generous cargo room
Cons: Cramped rear seat; cabin trim trails best in class; engine grows noisy when accelerating
CG Says: The 2020 Hyundai Elantra GT is unchanged. Elantra GT is a compact 4-door hatchback that was redesigned for 2018. Elantra is also available in a sedan bodystyle that is simply badged Elantra (see separate report). The hatchback is available as a base GT or sporty GT N Line with sport suspension tuning and unique interior and exterior trim. The base GT has a 162-horsepower 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The GT N Line is powered by a 201-horsepower turbocharged 1.6-liter 4-cylinder with a choice of a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed automated-manual transmission. Elantra GT offers many safety and convenience features that are unusual for the class. Among the available features are heated/ventilated front seats, wireless cell-phone charging, emergency automatic braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot alert, lane-keep assist, driver-attention monitor, and cross-traffic alert. The Elantra GT has generous amount of features for the dollar and offers wide range of available equipment. It also has a large cargo capacity that rivals some compact SUVs. The GT N Line has crisp handling and sprightly acceleration. Plus, N Line offers a manual transmission that’s a delight.
