Cons: Control layout; rear visibility; pricey options
2020 Jaguar I-Pace
CG Says: The 2020 Jaguar I-Pace receives a software update to improve range. Although the official EPA-estimated driving range remains 234 miles, Jaguar claims the new software can increase the real-world range by up to 12 miles. Otherwise, the I-Pace is unchanged. Jaguar introduced the pure-electric I-Pace for 2019. The I-Pace is a rakishly styled 4-door hatchback with a genre-bending silhouette that combines crossover-SUV and passenger-car design elements. The sole powertrain is a dual electric-motor setup that produces a total of 394 horsepower; all-wheel drive is standard. The I-Pace has much quicker acceleration than you might expect for an all-electric vehicle: Jaguar claims a 4.5-second 0-60-mph time. Standard safety features include autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, driver condition monitor, and traffic sign recognition. Other available features include height-adjustable suspension, heated/cooled front seats, and four-zone automatic climate control. No matter how you slice it, the Jaguar I-Pace stands out as a one-of-a-kind vehicle. Its shape looks like nothing else, and it offers truly dynamic acceleration and handling, a respectable driving range, and good space for adult occupants in both the front and back seats. On the downside, the rakish styling limits cargo room, and some of the controls are unconventional to the point of being distracting. We’d also steer clear of the I-Pace’s pricey appearance options. The rise of pure-electric vehicles is changing the definition of luxury motoring in many ways, and Jaguar’s new I-Pace clearly reflects this reality. It’s not without its quirks, but in both concept and execution, the I-Pace is one of the most forward-looking vehicles on the market.
