Pros: Smooth, muscular V8 power; impressive off-road capability; near library-quiet cabin; soft yet reasonably composed ride
Cons: Fuel economy; steep starting price; doesn’t offer significantly more than similar Toyota Land Cruiser
CG Says: The Lexus LX 570 gets a major refresh for 2016. Styling is revised inside and out. The 6-speed automatic transmission is replaced by an 8-speed. The multimedia controls have been upgraded and now have a 12.3-inch screen. New standard features include LED headlights, surround-view camera, second-row sunshades, blind-spot alert, and cross-traffic alert. Newly available features include head-up instrument display, wireless cell-phone charging, Lexus Enform Remote, and Lexus Enform Service Connect. This “Lexus Land Cruiser” doesn’t have quite the cachet of the Audi Q7 or Mercedes-Benz GL-Class, which offer thrifty diesel power. Nor does it have the in-your-face style of the Cadillac Escalade. However, LX 570 offers plenty of room, refinement, and luxury; laudable safety and performance features; and is highly capable off-road. The only reason to pay more for LX 570 over Toyota’s own Land Cruiser is Lexus’ reputation for kid-gloves customer treatment.
