2016 Lincoln MKX

Pros: Spacious, quiet cabin; classy interior materials; cushy ride quality; fine acceleration from Ecoboost V6; good selection of available comfort and safety features

Cons: Ecoboost engine’s real-world fuel economy is disappointing; so-so rear visibility; finicky MyLincoln Touch control interface (but improved Sync 3 system is a midyear upgrade); some testers find the push-button gear selector awkward; fully optioned models are a questionable value

CG Says: Lincoln’s 5-passenger midsize crossover SUV is redesigned for 2016. The new MKX shares its basic platform with the redesigned-for-2015 Ford Edge; it gains new styling, a more spacious interior, a newly available turbocharged 2.7-liter V6, and new technology and safety features. Notable among those features are a panoramic sunroof, hands-free liftgate, a 180-degree forward-view camera, blind-spot monitor with rear cross traffic alert, heated and ventilated front seats, heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, and a dual-screen rear-seat entertainment system. The redesigned Lincoln MKX does a better job of distancing itself from its mainstream Ford Edge cousin than the first-generation MKX did. The available Ecoboost V6 supplies smooth, ready power, and the supple ride and generous list of available luxury features make the MKX feel like a true premium-class vehicle. The MKX’s primary competitor, the redesigned Lexus RX, might outclass it in terms of interior materials and all-around refinement, but the MKX is a credible alternative—particularly if you’re turned off by the RX’s radical styling.
