Pros: Outstanding cargo room for the class; rear seats fold flat and level; good fuel economy; smooth, balanced ride, plenty of passenger space
Cons: Base prices are higher than most rivals; so-so cabin materials
CG Says: Toyota’s popular compact SUV was redesigned for 2013 and sees some new safety features added to the roster for the 2014model year. RAV4’s large-for-the-class dimensions give it great passenger and cargo room, and fuel economy is quite respectable as well. Starting prices may seem a bit steep, but they’re somewhat justified by the high levels of equipment and Toyota’s strong brand reputation. Particularly if you’re torn between a compact SUV and a midsize one, the 2014 RAV4 is well worth a look.
