2016 Acura ILX

Pros: Surprisingly hospitable rear seat; competitive pricing; good range of available luxury and safety features; improved quietness; nice ride/handling balance

Cons: Only one powertrain available; cabin ambiance and materials a bit drab for the class; engine occasionally feels coarse to some testers

CG Says: The 2016 Acura ILX gets updated front and rear styling, new safety features, upgraded interior materials, available 18-inch wheels, and a standard 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The ILX’s 201-horsepower 2.4-liter 4-cylinder is now the lone engine; the 2.0-liter four has been dropped from the line. Newly available safety features include Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist System, Road Departure Mitigation, and Collision Mitigating Braking System with pedestrian-detection capability. Also new is an A-SPEC package that brings sporty interior and exterior trim. The ILX is positioned between regular compact cars and the majority of premium compacts. The numerous improvements for 2016 make ILX a more credible contender in its segment. This junior Acura still doesn’t quite match the premium ambiance of some of its class rivals, but competitive pricing and a long list of desirable available features make it a worthwhile choice.
