Pros: High level of features per dollar; abundant V8 power; supremely comfortable back seat
Cons: Lacks brand prestige of class competitors; front-seat space lacking compared to class rivals; some ergonomic glitches with infotainment system; subpar ride quality on rough surfaces
CG Says: The availability of a hands-free trunk opener is the only notable change to Hyundai Equus for 2016. Equus is the flagship of the Hyundai brand. It’s a rear-wheel-drive premium-large sedan that’s designed to offer all the luxury of a high-end German car (think Audi A8, BMW 7-Series, or Mercedes-Benz S-Class) at a fraction of the price. Equus cannot match those German rivals or the Lexus LS in ride and handling, and cabin refinement is not quite class par. Still, with its impressive collection of high-end convenience features and a starting price that undercuts a Mercedes-Benz S550 by more than $30,000, Equus is a compelling value.
