Pros: Generous level of standard equipment; upscale interior vibe; clear and functional physical dashboard controls; stylish exterior design
Cons: Steep price premium over QX50; ride can be brittle over rough pavement; sloped roofline slightly compromises interior room and rear visibility; so-so fuel economy
CG Says: Infiniti introduces a new compact crossover SUV “coupe” for 2022 that’s similar in concept to the Audi Q5 Sportback, BMW X4, and Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class Coupe. The QX55 is essentially a more stylish version of the Infiniti QX50, with a few sporty design touches and a rakishly sloped fastback roofline in place of the QX50’s traditional roof. Like the QX50, the QX55 has a 268-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine as its sole engine choice. It pairs with a CVT automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive. The QX55 is offered in three trim levels: Luxe, Essential, and Sensory. Standard on all are Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity; a 4G Wi-Fi hotspot is available. Available safety features include blind-spot intervention, lane departure prevention, adaptive steering, and Infiniti’s ProPILOT Assist lane-centering adaptive cruise control system with stop-and-go capability. The QX55 does pretty much everything its sibling does, with some extra style and panache. You’ll pay a premium for that, of course — QX55s are priced about $3000 to $5000 more than comparable QX50s. But the QX55 is nonetheless a worthy choice for buyers seeking a capable luxury crossover SUV that can strike a bold pose.
