2014 Jaguar F-Type

Pros: Striking styling; impressive performance from both V6 and V8 models; truly upscale character

Cons: Stingy trunk space; weighs a bit more than some competitors; adding optional equipment pumps up the already steep base prices

CG Says: The F-Type is Jaguar’s new 2-seat sports car; it’s a front-engine, rear-drive convertible that is smaller and less expensive than Jaguar’s XK coupe and convertible. The base V6 model uses a supercharged 340-horsepower 3.0-liter V6 powerplant–essentially the engine that Jaguar introduced for the 2013 XJ and XF sedans. V6 S models get a 380-horsepower variant of the supercharged 3.0-liter engine. The F-Type V8 S is fitted with a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 engine rated at 495 horsepower. The F-Type’s competition includes the BMW Z4, Chevrolet Corvette, and Porsche Boxster. The F-Type is a true sports car that revives the spirit of the classic Jaguar roadsters of the early 60s. The S is probably the best value, with most of the performance of the V8 S and similar handling. Those shopping for a sports car should add the F-Type to their list.
