Pros: Striking styling; impressive performance from both V6 and V8 models; truly upscale character
Cons: Stingy trunk space; weighs a bit more than some competitors; adding optional equipment pumps up the already steep base prices
CG Says: For 2016, Jaguar F-Type offers all-wheel drive on all but base V6 models. A 6-speed manual transmission is newly available on rear-drive V6 models. The F-Type is a front-engine, rear- or all-wheel drive coupe and convertible that is smaller and less expensive than the discontinued Jaguar XK. The base V6 F-Types use a supercharged 340-horsepower 3.0-liter V6 powerplant–essentially the engine that Jaguar introduced for the 2013 XJ and XF sedans. V6 S models get a 380-horsepower variant of the supercharged 3.0-liter engine. The line-topping R model has a 550-hp supercharged 5.0 V8 and all-wheel drive. Competitive vehicles include the BMW Z4, Chevrolet Corvette, and Porsche Boxster and Cayman. The F-Type is a true sports car that revives the spirit of the classic Jaguar roadsters of the early 60s, and the addition of a coupe body style makes it that much more appealing. The S is probably the best value, with most of the performance of the R and similar handling. Those shopping for an upscale sports car should add the F-Type to their list.
