Pros: Smooth and muscular V8 power; impressive off-road capability; near library-quiet cabin; soft yet reasonably composed ride, impressive build quality
Cons: Fuel economy; steep starting price; doesn’t offer significantly more content than similar, and less-expensive, Toyota Land Cruiser
CG Says: The Lexus LX 570 sees no significant changes of note for the 2014 model year. This “Lexus Land Cruiser” doesn’t have quite the luxury cachet of the Audi Q7 or Mercedes-Benz GL-Class, both of which offer thrifty diesel power. Nor does this big Lexus have the in-your-face style of the Cadillac Escalade. However, the LX 570 offers plenty of room, refinement, and luxury; laudable safety and performance features; and is highly capable off-road. The only real reason to pay more for LX 570 over Toyota’s own Land Cruiser is Lexus’ reputation for kid-gloves customer treatment–and possibly resale value.
