2014 Mercedes-Benz SLK 250

Pros: Invigorating acceleration, particularly with top-line SLK55 model; crisp handling; higher-class build quality, materials, and comfort than most two-seat sports-car contenders

Cons: Transmission isn’t as responsive as most competitors’; ride can become stiff over sharp bumps

CG Says: The 2014 Mercedes-Benz SLK now comes with a panoramic sunroof as standard equipment, but otherwise sees no significant changes. The SLK is sporty and engaging to drive, but it still delivers the quality and refinement expected of Mercedes. The V6-powered SLK350 delivers great performance, but the price is out of reach for most, a condition exacerbated when options are added. Current Porsche Boxster owners might not give this car a second glance, but anyone considering the Audi TT or BMW Z4 should give the SLK a spin.
