CG Says: Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class is renamed SLC-Class for 2017. The SLC has freshened styling, but the chassis and base engine are carried over. The V8-powered AMG SLK55 is replaced by AMG SLC43 with a turbo V6 engine. SLC is a premium sporty/performance two-passenger convertible with a retractable hardtop. The engine of the base SLC300 is a 241-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder. The performance AMG SLC43 is powered by a 362-hp turbocharged 3.0-liter V6. Both engines are paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. Available features include blind-spot alert, adaptive cruise control, steering-linked LED headlights, neck-level heating system, and park assist. The SLC is sporty and engaging to drive, but it still delivers the quality and refinement expected of Mercedes. Prices are out of reach for most, a condition exacerbated when options are added. Current Porsche Boxster owners might not give this car a second glance, but anyone considering the Audi TT or BMW Z4 should give the SLC a spin.
