Pros: Generous passenger space front and rear; large, versatile cargo area; classy interior trimmings on topline Platinum model

Cons: Only one powertrain offered; acceleration and handling aren’t as sporty as some class rivals

CG Says: The Nissan Rogue is redesigned for 2021 on a new platform, gaining fresh styling and several new safety and technology features. The sole powertrain is a 181-hp 2.5-liter 4-cylinder paired with a CVT automatic transmission; all models offer a choice of front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Standard safety features include automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot alert, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, rear automatic braking, and automatic high-beam headlights. Available is an upgraded version of Nissan’s ProPILOT Assist feature, a driver-assist system that pairs adaptive-cruise-control functionality with automatic lane-centering steering assist (the driver’s hands must remain on the steering wheel). ProPILOT Assist can also be optioned with a Navi-Link feature that uses navigation-system data to “predict” upcoming roads and slow the vehicle accordingly for curves and freeway exits. A new topline Platinum model has upscale features such as semi-aniline leather upholstery, head-up instrument display, digital gauge cluster, and a wireless charging pad. The redesigned Rogue retains the previous generation model’s spacious interior and cargo hold, but improves all-around refinement and adds welcome new features, including family-friendly touches like rear doors that open almost 90 degrees and a depression built into the rear cargo area that’s sized for a gallon jug of milk. It’s a must-see in the mainstream compact-SUV class.
