CG Says: The 2017 Volvo XC60 drops its 5-cylinder and 6-cylinder engines. The powertrain lineup now consists of two “Drive-E” 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engines. The T5 version is turbocharged and has 240 horsepower; the T6 version is both turbocharged and supercharged and has 302 hp. All-wheel drive is standard on T6. The model range has also been simplified. Both T5 and T6 powertrains are available in Dynamic or Inscription trims, while the sporty R-Design is T6 only. All XC60s seat five. Refined and loaded to the brim with expected and innovative safety features, Volvo’s premium compact SUV is a good one. Its only significant flaws are an occasionally crunchy ride and somewhat steep pricing on T6 models. On the whole, XC60’s balance of power, handling, and comfort make it worthy of serious consideration for those who desire something small yet upscale.
