2015 S80

2016 Volvo S80

Pros: Fine build quality; generous passenger room front and rear; broad selection of available safety features; comfortable seats

Cons: Somewhat lackluster driving personality; lacks high-end brand appeal of similarly priced rivals; all-wheel drive and a more-powerful engine option are no longer available.

CG Says: For 2016, the Volvo S80 lineup loses its turbo 6-cylinder T6 and its all-wheel-drive models. The model roster now consists solely of front-wheel-drive turbo 4-cylinder T5 models in base or Platinum trim. S80 is a comfortable and unassuming sedan. Unfortunately, this Volvo can’t match the brand recognition, sporty moves, or luxury trappings of its strongest competitors. Base prices are reasonable for the class, but expensive packaged and standalone items can push the sticker into territory occupied by cars that offer greater cachet, larger dealer networks, and stronger resale values.
