CG Says: The 2016 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is mostly unchanged prior to a redesign next year. The E400 Hybrid and base E63 models are not offered for 2016. (In addition to the engines listed in the chart below, the E-Class lineup offers a 402-hp 4.7-liter V8 in the E550 and a 5.5-liter V8 with 577 hp in the S-Model E63 AMG models.) While not as overtly sporty in popular trim levels as midsize offerings from Audi or BMW, the E-Class is rewarding to drive, and rivals larger premium sedans for highway composure. Prices are high, and climb higher quickly as options are added, but few vehicles in any class can match the E-Class’s enviable blend of performance, mechanical refinement, and luxury appointments.
