Pros: Regal trimmings inside and out; smooth, authoritative acceleration; rare-for-the-class body style; peaceful ride quality; broad range of safety features
Cons: Sky-high prices; limited versatility; cramped rear-seat headroom and legroom, especially considering the large overall size; complicated control layout
CG Says: The CL-Class is a large, 2-door, 4-seat luxury coupe based on the S-Class sedan. The flagship coupe of the Mercedes lineup, it is loaded with standard safety and luxury features that can bring the price tag close to that of even higher-end luxury cars from Bentley and Maserati. Any CL-Class is very expensive, but they’re also impeccably built and brimming with power, technology, and luxury. For the well-heeled shopper with little use for a rear seat, these well-crafted coupes are a wonderful indulgence. Note that 2014 is slated to be the last year for the current-generation CL-Class; a new model based on the redesigned S-Class will likely debut soon.
