Convertible-top vehicles go back nearly as far as the automobile itself. New in the category is the availability of convertible hard tops, a feature that allows for open-air motoring yet offers the security and road isolation of the conventional coupe. Retracting hardtop convertibles are generally found in the lineups of luxury makers, though more-affordable examples can be had.
